Dave Grohl pledges his support to Rage Against The Machine in 'X Factor' chart battle

Dave Grohl has said he'll be buying a copy of Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' this week to try and help the song get to Number One ahead of The X Factor winner Joe McElderry on Sunday (December 20).
The 1992 song is currently in a chart battle with McElderry's single 'The Climb' after over 800,000 people joined a Facebook group registering their disgust with Simon Cowell and The X Factor.
Grohl told Tom Russell on 96.3 Rock Radio that he first became aware of the campaign after a garage worker mentioned it to him while he was travelling up the M6.
"I'm paying for my sandwich and he said, 'Are you gonna buy the Rage Against The Machine single this week? And I said, 'Yeah I think I might have to!" he said.
Speaking of why the campaign is proving so popular, Grohl said he thinks people are "sick" of reality TV programmes like The X Factor.
"There's some music that I question its intention," he explained. "When people rise up and decide, 'Hey man, I'm sick of this, let's derail this other thing for something real' I'm all for it."
He also praised 'Killing In The Name' as a song with a powerful meaning.
"I think that maybe what's happening now with the Rage Against The Machine thing, is people are really craving the warts and all," Grohl explained. "And that song is just an incredible song, and it's meaningful. Maybe they're craving something that actually means something?"
'Killing In The Name' recently became the bookies' favourite to bag the Christmas Number One slot.
Simon Cowell has slammed the campaign, calling it "stupid", "cynical" and "very Scrooge". Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello has publicly given the campaign his backing.
For more on The X Factor and its effect on British music, get the new issue of NME, on UK newsstands nationwide, for an exclusive interview with Cowell.

Most people regard watching television as a passive activity. You sit, you watch. Occasionally, you change the channel. But a new study reveals that even this passive diversion may lead to actively damaging effects, particularly when it comes to issues of race.
In a series of intricately designed experiments, psychologists at Tufts University demonstrate that subtle racial biases are often expressed by characters on popular television shows, and that viewers not only pick up these attitudes but allow them to shape their own outlooks on race. The most insidious part of this cultural traffic, the researchers found, is that the transmission of race bias appears to occur subconsciously, unbeknownst to the viewer. ( Read more... )

You Fugly? Well, I Die! 10 Fashion Catchphrases That (Try To) Make It Work
By Connie Wang
If you're not familiar with fashion jargon, sometimes the conversations between stylish speakers can sound like a foreign language. But it's not so hard, we promise! From reality show catchphrases to Internet memes gone viral, here are 10 fashion catchphrases that you won't find in any vocabulary book.

Smize: v. Smiling with one's eyes.
Etymology: At Tyra's urging, the girls on America's Next Top Model must learn how to keep their smiling above the nose. We still haven't figured out exactly what "smizing" entails, but it's great fun to watch the big vein on the bug-eyed girls' foreheads pulse with effort.
Usage: "We got the photos back from the gallery event last week where I tried to smize for the camera, but it just looks like I have crazy eyes."

Chic Wolf: n. When a person is dressed and posed incredibly fiercely (For girls: Fur, leather, and stilettos. For guys: Fur, leather, and stillettos).
Etymology: The livejournal community over at Fashin began using Chic Wolf to reference anything reminiscent of Shakira in her "She-Wolf" music video. In its purest form, one can only call outfits consisting of nude leotards, one-legged bodysuits, and strange cavewoman minidresses as Chic Wolf. Now, it's become anything that Rihanna might wear.
Usage: "Did you see when Lady Gaga totally upstaged Beyonce in that "Video Phone" music video? What a Chic Wolf!"

Her name is Cymphonique, and she could be Nickelodeon's next teen star.
The cable channel has inked a substantial talent development deal with the 13-year-old actor/singer/dancer to develop series for her or add her to existing projects. Additionally, Sony Music, which has a partnership with Nickelodeon, has signed Cymphonique to a record deal. Under the pacts, Cymphonique could star in a comedy/musical or a straight comedy series.
"She is extraordinarily talented for somebody so young," Nickelodeon's executive vp talent Paula Kaplan said. "She has great comedic timing, an amazing voice and is very self-assured." Additionally, "we have had long history with this family," she added.
Cymphonique is the daughter of Percy Miller, aka Master P, and the sister of actor-rapper Romeo. Romeo, then billed as Lil' Romeo, was 9 when his father brought him to Nickelodeon. He headlined his own series on the channel for four seasons.
Nickelodeon is entering the comedy/musical series space with two upcoming shows: "Victorious," toplined by "Zoey 101" co-star Victoria Justice, and "Big Time Rush," about a boy band, which launches in January.
Cymphonique, who has appeared in an episode of Nickelodeon's "Just Jordan," was a finalist on Disney Radio's "N.B.T. (Next Big Thing)."
She is repped by Fortitude.

Court records show LeAnn Rimes' husband Deane Sheremet has officially filed for divorce.
The couple announced a divorce was in the works in September, but no paperwork had been filed. Court records show Sheremet filed in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The couple were married in February 2002 and have no children together. The filing cites "irreconcilable differences" for the breakup, and Rimes has been linked with TV-movie co-star Eddie Cibrian (source had Ciboria?) for months.
Sheremet is seeking spousal support and to have his attorney's fees paid by Rimes, who is a country singer and actress.
The couple have apparently already worked out how to divide their property.
I hope he gets a reality show where he tries to find a new husband.
I bought that top and skinny jean. I'm having a hard time deciding what "footwear" will go with that outfit. No high heels or flats. Possibly boots or Vans KVD Slips? Any ideas?

Do any of you guys mess around with audio recording software? I have dabbled in recording audio and remixing stuff for a long time but haven't really gotten serious about it.
If you deal with stuff like this, what program do you like to use? I might have more Q's later.

Not going to lie, I thought it was a weird spelling of Louisiana at first. It might still be, though.
Onetime Pussycat Dolls guest performer Christina Aguilera is filming her big-screen debut in the movie musical "Burlesque," which is being helmed by Steve Antin, brother of PCD creator Robin Antin. Robin said it's great to see her brother and Aguilera working together on the flick because they bring something special out in each another. "It's going very well, and Christina's great," Robin told MTV News of the singer, who performed with the Pussycat Dolls revue in Las Vegas back in 2003.
